Chain Mail

I’ve made different pieces of mail armor over the years (butted, punched, and riveted rings of mild, stainless, aluminum, and brass). Most of the stuff I have documented is stainless.

A stainless steel aventail of 14 ga. butted rings and punched rings. All rings have about a 3/8 inch. internal diameter. Once assembled, I stitched the aventail to a strip of veg tan leather using artificial sinew. The aventail was then mounted onto this early great helm using brass Chicago Screws.

A stainless steel chain mail shirt I made for my Pelican. The rings are butted 14 ga. and punched, with a 3/8 inch interior diameter. The edges are decorated with dagged brass rings.

A set of brigandine mitten gauntlets for which I made a set of mail covers. The covers are made of 14 ga. stainless steel butted and pinched rings. The rings have an internal diameter of 3/8 of an inch. The covers are stitched onto the mittens.
